Visiting hours:
The National Museum of Art of Romania, the Theodor Pallady Museum and the K. H. Zambaccian Museum can be visited: Wednesday-Friday 10am-6pm
Saturday-Sunday 11am-7pm, Monday and Tuesday closed. Free entry on the first Wednesday of the month.
The Art Collections Museum: Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 10am-6pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am-7pm, closed Wednesday and Thursday. Free entry on the first Friday of the month.
Last entrance: 1 hour before closing for The National Museum of Art of Romania and the Art Collections Museum and 30 minutes for the Theodor Pallady Museum, the K. H. Zambaccian Museum and the temporary exhibitions.
For guided tours, please make a reservation at secretariat@art.museum.ro at least 7 days in advance.

Programs for schools and kindergartens

Our programs for schools and kindergartens are only in Romanian and include special guided tours for children scheduled by teachers.

Our educational programs for the 2024-2025 school year are specially designed to develop the imagination, artistic skills, critical thinking and collaboration skills of the participants. Our offer allows the young public to observe and discuss artworks of the rich national and international heritage of MNAR thus gaining important insights into the field of art history.

The programs include guided tours. We recommend guided tours starting with secondary school level.

Please register for guided tours at least one week in advance by writing to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., specifying the desired day and time. The price per group is 150 lei in Romanian or 250 lei in English to which the entrance fee is added: 6 lei/child.

Educational programs for schools take place starting with 10:00 a.m., Wednesday to Friday, at the National Museum of Art of Romania no. 49-53, Calea Victoriei, K.H. Zambaccian Museum, 21A, Muzeul Zambaccian Street and Theodor Pallady Museum, 22, Spătarului Street, and on Monday and Tuesday at the Museum of Art Collections no. 111, Calea Victoriei.

Appointments for workshops are made at least one week in advance at the email addresses indicated under each workshop description, specifying the name of the school, the number of students, the desired day and time. Materials for each workshop are provided by the museum. Programs duration: between 60 and 120 minutes. Price: between 15-40 lei/participant (workshop rates include access to the museum)

  1. Colored Riddles. Green as the Fir Tree. NEW!

We explore the meaning of colors in art and popular culture - green, red, yellow, white, black. We participate in an adventure in the vibrant world of colors. We explore how colors are hidden in riddles, how they reveal wisdom through proverbs and how they come to life in the paintings of Romanian artists. We unravel the mysteries of colors, starting with green - the color of nature. We discover how colors express feelings and thoughts. In the last part of the activity, we will make a graphic creation in the color that makes us happy.

What are emotions? How does art make us feel? Can colors influence our mood? We start the journey in the European Art Gallery and explore the connections between art and emotions with the help of colors, expressions and characters in art works. At the end children will have the opportunity to create their own work in the studio, inspired by the works of the great masters, using colors that bring them joy.

  1. Treasure Hunt – The Garden of Eden

Suitable for the educational activities of the programs: ”Different School Week” and the ”Green Week”

The workshop involves a treasure hunt in the European Art Gallery, to discover and be inspired by famous paintings in which we find painted animals and plants. This will be our search goal in order to create an artwork on the topic of the Garden of Eden. During the workshop we will discover stories from the Genesis and symbols of flora and fauna in artworks such as The Annunciation by Tintoretto, Bouquet of flowers by Bruegel or Flowers in a grotto by Abraham Mignon.

Together we will go through the exhibition and discover the works of Modern Romanian artists on the border between figurative and abstract. What is an abstract painting and what is a figurative painting? What can be the border between them? We will observe how artists of different generations have solved representational problems of the 20th and 21st centuries. In the studio we will find objects worthy of painting and then transform them into abstract painting.

  1. Pointillism in Art. NEW!

Suitable for the educational activities of the programs: ”Different School Week” and the ”Green Week”

Starting from the works of the Romanian pointillist artist Arthur Segal shown in the Romanian Modern Art Gallery, we discover Pointillism as an artistic movement and the divisionist technique used by artists. This involves the decomposition of colors and light into a multitude of brushstrokes of pure color, which creates the impression of a mosaic. In the first part of the workshop, we make a sketch in pencil, where we mention the desired colors, and in the second part we place color in the vein of the artistic trend we have just studied.

  1. Acanthus leaf – ornament and symbol. NEW!

Suitable for the educational activities of the programs: ”Different School Week” and the ”Green Week”

Acanthus is a vegetal ornament used since antiquity in architecture and art, often seen in The Romanian Medieval Art Gallery of NMAR either in goldsmith engraving, wall paintings, clothing, the decoration of church embroidery and sculptures, but also in the graphic enrichment of the first books. In the first part of the workshop we learn about the symbolism of the acanthus leaf properties and stylistic varieties, and in the second part we create an artwork on this subject, learning and acquiring notions of graphic art.

We discover the landscapes painted by Nicolae Grigorescu, the personality who had a strong influence on the Romanian painters of the first part of the 20th century. We find on the map the places that he visited and loved and identify the elements of nature that inspired him.

In this program we will discover the architectural elements in the paintings of the European Art Gallery. We will discuss perspective and rhythm in architecture by looking in parallel at the paintings and the spaces in which they are exhibited. At the end of the visit, all theoretical notions about architecture will come together in a practical activity.

How did avant-garde artists imagine the future of humanity? Have you heard of Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism, Surrealism? Why did these currents exist in international and Romanian art? How do these relate to 20th century history? Why do we use the term avant-garde? Can we create our own avant-garde movement? Based on the works in the room of the Romanian Avant-garde, we think together about the way of life of the artists between the two world wars, and we imagine, through exercises and discussions, how we can influence the future.

What are representations of peace? The active visit aims to observe and discuss the representation of war, but also of peace in art, based on the Modern Romanian Art Collection, during several historical periods, several artists and several ideological discourses.
