The National Art Museum of Romania invites you to a new event "Meeting at the Museum", Sunday 25 February 2024, 4 pm, in the European Art Gallery (Calea Victoriei 49-53). Călin Stegerean's guest is Danielle Van Zadelhoff, a visual artist from the Netherlands who works mainly with the medium of photography.

Danielle van Zadelhoff was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and has been working as a professional photographer since 2013, based in Antwerp, Belgium. In a short period of time she has had numerous solo exhibitions and participations in group exhibitions and festivals in Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Spain and the UK. His photographs have been included in public and private collections, including Musea Brugge (Belgium), Centro di Ricerca e Archiviazione della Fotografia (Italy), Centro de Art Contemporáneo de Málaga (Spain), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and in the historic Pio Monte della Misericordia Cathedral (Italy).

The talk will be held in English, with simultaneous translation into Romanian, and will start from her photographic art projects, inspired by her fascination for the complexity of human emotions. Her photographs convey a tension inspired by the essential themes of life, from loneliness, to vulnerability and the pure raw emotions of everyday life. Danielle van Zadelhoff's artistic style is characterised by the frequent use of chiaroscuro, a plastic modelling of light first seen in the history of art in the work of Leonardo da Vinci, and later perfected in the Baroque period by such great artists as Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Georges de la Tour.

Danielle van Zadelhoff works mainly with human models, and most of her photographs capture carefully constructed psychological portraits set in eras other than the contemporary one. This characteristic gives them an air of timelessness, in dialogue with the great masters.

During the event, the hall will be closed to visitors from 16.00-18.00.

"Meeting at the Museum" is a project that aims to mediate public contact with personalities from various fields of culture on topics at the intersection of various artistic genres. Access is by ticket (12 lei), without prior reservation. The format of this programme encourages the audience to contribute their own questions and points of view.

The event is supported by Intercontinental Athénée Palace, Aqua Carpatica, Domeniile Sâmburești and ArTeVezi Magazine.
