Focus on: Allan Ramsay - The Portrait of John Grey

Allan Ramsay’s Portrait of John Grey is displayed in the museum’s Gallery of European Art between 7 September and 1 November 2016.

Curator Mălina Conțu will explore the sitter’s posture and its rhetoric in a lecture addressing issues such as the emerging interest of 18^th century English aristocracy in both classical antiquity and in defining the profile of the modern gentleman, and the role of visual arts in coding such complex messages.
