Eli Lotar (1905 - 1969)

 The Art Collections Museum plays host to the Eli Lotar (1905-1969) retrospective exhibition. A rich selection of over 150 vintage prints, films, book and magazine pages, letters, digital contact prints, etc. illustrates the creation of this remarkable, albeit little-known, French photographer and filmmaker of Romanian origin. 

Eli Lotar (Eliazar Lotar Teodorescu), a major representative of Parisian avant-garde, is the son of Tudor Arghezi, well-known Romanian poet and journalist; his contribution helped shape the “new vision” typical of modern photography and cinematography as developed in the late 1920s and 1930s.

Organised by the National Museum of Romanian Literature, Jeu de Paume and Centre Pompidou as part of the France-Romania 2019 Season, the exhibition marks an absolute first for Romania as it reconstructs the 2017 Eli Lotar retrospective at Centre Pompidou.
