The exhibition brings together 59 prints by TUDOR BANUȘ and 20 prints by HONORẺ DAUMIER in an attempt to highlight the manner in which artists from different periods of time are inspired by the political and social context of the day.

Works by Tudor Banuș and Honoré Daumier blend in various perspectives and prompt onlookers to reflect upon and understand the architecture of humanity the two artists constructed at different points in time. Their “encounter” highlights the different manners in which they portray the tensions and anguishes typical of the respective worlds.

Tudor Banuș (b. 8 July 1947, Bucharest) graduated the “Ion Mincu” Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning in 1971 and one year later left the country to settle in France, where he studied oil painting and engraving at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Beaux-Arts in Paris. As of 1976 he began to collaborate with major newspapers and magazines such as Le Monde, L'Express, Le Point, Le Figaro, Die Zeit, The New York Times, The New York Magazine.

World-famous French illustrator, painter and sculptor Honoré Daumier (1808-1879) was one of the most appreciated political cartoonists of his day, and a regular contributor to many magazines and newspapers such as La Silouhette, La caricature, Le Charivari etc.

Curators: Carmen Cernat, graphic art specialist and Oana Ionel, artist.
